Frequently Asked Questions

Most calls ask for some mix of an artist bio, artist statement, work samples, and sometimes a CV or project proposal. Residency and public art calls often ask for more context around past projects or a proposal for what you'd make during the residency. Having a clean portfolio PDF ready makes the whole process significantly faster.
Not always — but many opportunities benefit from having one ready, especially residencies, curated group exhibitions, and gallery submissions where presentation matters. A polished PDF also makes your application look more professional than a link to your website or a folder of loose images.
It varies, but most calls ask for between 8 and 20 work samples. Residencies and grants often want more context — each image accompanied by title, year, medium, dimensions, and a short description. That's exactly what ExhibitFolio's tearsheets provide.
Not word-for-word. A strong base statement is valuable, but the best applications adapt the statement to the opportunity — residency calls want to know what you'd make there, grant calls want to understand your practice and project. ExhibitFolio's "Polish my draft" option lets you refine your existing statement quickly for each new application.

One More Thing Before You Apply

Most of these opportunities ask for the same core materials: an artist bio, an artist statement, individual artwork documentation, and a portfolio PDF. The difference between applying and not applying is usually whether those materials are ready.

ExhibitFolio generates your complete portfolio package — bio, statement, individual tearsheets, and a full PDF catalog — in minutes. Upload your artwork images, fill in your details, and download everything ready to submit.
